Man, I had some weird dreams last night. I don't normally dream (or should I say, I don't normally remember my dreams), so for me to remember not one but two dreams from one night is pretty strange. Even weirder, I swear I've had both dreams before. Maybe not scene-for-scene identical, but definitely from the same script.
I don't remember much of the first one, except the end, which featured a really long "disclaimer" of sorts. The disclaimer started out really small (ground level, and small, maybe cell level), and talking about the dangers of... some sort of weird healing thingy that seemed to be based on the early stages of life. The dream felt very light blue, white, wispy-cloud-like, and vaguely Chinese (in no particular sense of the word). There was a bunch of stuff before that, but I don't remember any of it. But I remember having heard that disclaimer before.
The second one was much stranger, longer, and more coherent, of sorts. Also, very dark, macabre (I love that word. Say it. Macabre. Mmmmmm...), and twisted-fairy-tale-esque. All the imagery was detailed, maybe Victorian?, complete, and kinda creepy. It started out in a barn-like structure behind a house, with a big field between the two. I was there with a group of other people, and we were looking at the horses with the head of the house, who was vaguely reminiscent of my grandfather, but closer to generic old man. There were also three centaurs there, but they weren't natural centaurs. They'd been formed by splicing a person and a horse together. (That was definitely influenced by The Book of Lost Things [review pending], since that actually happened in the story. Creepy-awesome book.) Two of the centaurs were twins, or brothers, and looked quite similar. We were looking at a computer, I think, and then later four horses, three of which were brown, one of which was an wrinkly white one. Don't ask. I remember random details.
Then something happened, I think the old man dying, since succession became an issue. Everything got dark, and there was blood and intent to murder and killing and rose/thorny vines everywhere. I ran out of the barn, into the dark, and the centaur that wasn't a twin died, but I think I killed it with one of the thorny vines. The people/creatures I'd been with earlier (and dwarves, a cross between Tolkien and Christmas style. Snow White style, almost) were trying to gain hold of the house. All the doors to the house had a little platform in front of them that was lit by a lantern, and the red-hatted dwarves would stake it out and then get killed by everyone else, but holding the platform was important. I think whoever held them got the house next, though I'm not sure why that was such a big deal. Tradition, probably. I didn't care; I was trying to get to the front of the house to get off the land, because then I'd be free from all the killing and such.
Next thing I remember, I was carefully fighting my way through a passageway of rose thorns on the south/left side of the house, feeling covered in blood. Absolutely soaked - it was quite a gross feeling. A person who makes me think of birds, in a bad sort of way, was coming up behind me, all evil-like, but just as they caught up with me, I either made it off the grounds, or the sun came up, or both happened at the same time, and I was safe. They mentioned that unless I'd killed someone I'd be cursed (or similar), but I knew I was okay (hence me thinking I killed that poor centaur with a swung rose vine). Since everything was safe, I went back into the house and got cleaned up, and woke up somewhere around there feeling very disturbed.
I know I'm missing lots of stuff, but it's a dream, what do you expect? That was one heck of a weird, macabre, dark, creepy, twisted fairy tale dream, and I'm not sure if it comes across that way, but it sure felt that way! Most of my dreams are much more normal, honest! Hopefully tonight will be less eventful...
On a different topic, I'm recovering nicely from my teeth. I was an absolute zombie until Tuesday, which was less fun than one might hope since I went to work Tuesday (Monday was a holiday). But today, I'm much more awake. Maybe getting out and being active helped clear things up. I'm eating relatively normally, though I still have to rinse with salt water and be careful brushing. Not very sore, which is nice.
I'm also still working on my Arabic. Pimsleur's Egyptian Arabic, just finished lesson 3, if you're curious. I'm having much fun. Once I find the time, I'll supplement it with Rosetta Stone, so I can get lots of Arabic learnin'. If/when I finish Pimsleur Arabic, I plan on going through the French (I took it in school, but I may as well keep my hand in, so to speak), and then maybe Japanese. But that's at least 3 months from now, at the speed of one lesson per day. Stuff to look forward to!
